This session is part of the LSU Online Faculty Committee's Pixels and Pedagogy: Exploring Online Teaching & Learning (opens in new tab) panel series.
In collaboration with the LSU Online Faculty Committee, the LSU Online Design & Development team hosted the panel event Beyond the Screen: Experiential Learning in Online Courses. Featuring faculty panelists Prof. Yvette Merritt, Dr. Andrew Schwarz, and Prof. Melinda Stallings, the event showcased hands-on projects that connect theory to real-world practice. Panelists emphasized experiential learning’s role in workforce preparation by bridging the gap between theory and application, showcasing examples like community-based projects, gamified simulations, and leadership role-playing. Key takeaways included starting small, aligning activities with learning objectives, partnering with learning experience designers, and fostering experimentation and reflection to boost student engagement and skill development in online courses.
