Design to Align: Achieving Course Alignment and Improving Student Outcomes

Alignment is the intentional connection between course outcomes, learning objectives, assessments, activities, and materials. Course alignment builds a strong cohesive framework, helps ensure that both you and your students have accurate expectations about what will be taught in your course, and that students are practicing and demonstrating the skills you want them to learn. Join us for this interactive workshop where we will guide you through designing or refining course outcomes and learning objectives and aligning them with assessments, activities, and materials.

Facilitating an Online Course: Effective Instructional Practices

This workshop, a collaborative effort between the LSU Online Design & Development team and the Faculty Technology Center, examines strategies faculty can use to actively engage learners and create instructor presence in building a meaningful learning environment. We will discuss characteristics of online learners and their needs, followed by ways students can engage with their instructor, peers, and content in online courses. Additionally, we will provide an overview of key Moodle settings and features that will assist in performing instructional activities (e.g., providing feedback, grading, and communicating with students).

Applying Universal Design for Learning to Enhance the Student Experience

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is a framework designed to empower students from varied backgrounds to actively participate in and take ownership of their learning. Application of the UDL principles involves thoughtful consideration and selection of course materials, teaching methods, and assessment strategies. Join us in this interactive workshop, where we share strategies for using the principles of UDL in your course. Note: This workshop is centered around audience participation, enabling us to engage in collective learning. During the workshop, you will have the opportunity to brainstorm and share ideas with your colleagues.

The Art of Course Redesign

Whether in a face-to-face class or an online course, there is always room for improvement when it comes to course design. But when there are so many possibilities, how do you focus your time and effort to result in quality improvement? Join us in this interactive workshop where we provide a framework for assessing your course to determine goal-oriented and prioritized areas for enhancement and associated data sources that will benefit the learning experience. Participants will gain practical insights into iterative revision processes and decision-making strategies to more purposefully craft engaging and purposeful learning experiences.

Designing and Teaching Accessible Courses

Offered by the LSU Online & Continuing Education team, this course introduces the core concepts of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and the laws and standards of accessibility in higher education. The course aims to equip participants with the basic guidelines and tools for making course content accessible and universal.
