*The transition of LSU Moodle is now complete. Please refer to the information below for working in the LSU Moodle site.
Starting on May 20, we are moving all Moodle course data to a new and improved infrastructure with a new host provider. This move will require a temporary outage beginning Wednesday, May 20 at 7 p.m. CST, and it may last up to 17 hours. Until that outage begins, all data on https://moodle.lsu.edu (opens in new tab) will be saved. After the outage, all changes will require manual saving. Here are the details:
- Live courses for all 2026 summer terms (2026 Summer, 2026 Summer 1, 2026 Summer 2) can be prepared and taught as expected at moodle.lsu.edu. This course data will be saved by LSU's Moodle Department.
- Live courses for any 2026 spring terms with Incomplete (“I”) grades can continue as expected at moodle.lsu.edu. This course data will also be saved by LSU's Moodle Department.
- Some HR, Departmental, and Design and Development courses have made other arrangements to remain on moodle.lsu.edu and with the help of the FTC are responsible for saving their data after the May 20 outage.
- After the outage, the address https://moodle.lsu.edu (opens in new tab) will be fully available, but NO EDITS TO ANY COURSES WILL BE SAVED AT THIS ADDRESS (outside of live 2026 Summer and Spring term courses) through August.
- After the outage, all courses outside of 2026 summer courses will also be hidden. See GROK 19861: Course Visibility (opens in new tab) if you need to make your course visible to users.
- For approximately one week, starting May 20, all course data at moodle.lsu.edu will be transferred to our new hosting provider at a temporary address, https://moodle4.lsu.edu (opens in new tab) . Unless identified above, please refrain from making changes to your courses until we have announced the availability of moodle4.lsu.edu.
- After moodle4.lsu.edu is available and all course data has been transferred, please make any changes to courses there, except for 2026 Summer courses. Please note that LTI external tools may not work at this address.
- In mid-August, following the end of the summer term, we will announce that you can return to using moodle.lsu.edu as normal, which will conclude our maintenance period. You will no longer need to navigate to moodle4.lsu.edu to work in your Moodle courses, and all changes will once again be saved. At that time, the address https://moodle4.lsu.edu (opens in new tab) will redirect to https://moodle.lsu.edu (opens in new tab) at this time.
- During the maintenance period, the Moodle front page at moodle.lsu.edu will look different and direct users to the appropriate web address.
If substantial changes are inadvertently made at moodle.lsu.edu during the maintenance period, from May 20 to mid-August, to non-2026 Summer courses, please contact the Faculty Technology Center (opens in new tab) to see if the course can be backed up and restored on the new Moodle server (moodle4.lsu.edu) so that further changes are saved. However, please be advised that it may not be possible to back up and restore courses with a course file size greater than 500MB (100%). To ensure that your changes are retained, please take care to make all changes to non-summer 2026 courses on moodle4.lsu.edu during the maintenance period.
To prepare for this maintenance period, we advise the following:
- FOR NON-SUMMER COURSES: If you have bookmarked your courses in your web browser or saved the address https://moodle.lsu.edu (opens in new tab) , you should instead access Moodle directly through the address https://moodle4.lsu.edu (opens in new tab) . You will be able to use previously saved shortcuts again in August, after the maintenance period.
- Students completing I-grade work over the summer will be able to work as needed on https://moodle.lsu.edu (opens in new tab) . No additional work is needed from instructors.
- Instructors working in blueprint courses for LSU Online programs should reach out to their learning experience designers for guidance over the summer.
- Coordinators for HRM training courses or Community Moodle courses should reach out to the FTC for guidance.
As previously stated, in the 2026 Fall terms, all live courses, edits, and any other work can safely resume in moodle.lsu.edu.
We are excited about improving your online teaching and learning environment!
