Courses that Use LTIs on moodle4.lsu.edu
SUMMARY
During the summer 2026 Moodle transition to a new hosting provider, the LSU Academic Technology team has provided moodle4.lsu.edu as a temporary maintenance address for preparing 2026 Fall courses. Fall course preparation should continue at moodle4.lsu.edu, with the understanding that LTI external tools will not be functional at that address. On August 12, our Moodle maintenance period will conclude. All courses will be available at the moodle.lsu.edu address, and all LTI external tools will be functional again. NOTE: Summer 2 courses may not appear until the following week.
If your course uses LTI external tools (e.g., Zoom, Panopto, publisher tools, etc.), please carefully read the following information to ensure that your LTI external tools will be functional in your fall courses. If your course does not use LTI external tools, you can prepare your fall courses on moodle4.lsu.edu and disregard this information.
Imported/Restored Course Content with LTIs
On August 12, any restored or imported LTIs will resume working. Instructors will still need to click on the LTI once after that date so the Moodle course can connect to the external tool. If a course has multiple activities for the same external tool, clicking on the LTI once will sync all instances without needing to click each individually.
Recommended for Building Courses that Use LTIs
This is the best option for most instructors.
- Before August 12, build your Moodle course on moodle4.lsu.edu.
- Build the LTI-based content separately in the external tool’s own site, if necessary.
- After August 12, add the LTI external tool(s) to Moodle so the course connects to the external tool content.
This approach keeps course design moving now while avoiding unnecessary work during the temporary address period.
Special Panopto option if Videos are Needed
For instructors who need videos available on moodle4.lsu.edu before August 12, the following is an option. Please note that this method requires working in HTML in the text editor.
- Build your Moodle course on moodle4.lsu.edu.
- Provision the Moodle course so a Panopto folder is created for it.
- Log in directly to Panopto (opens in new tab) and open the new course folder.
- Upload the videos you need to the Panopto course folder.
- Hover over the video to access the Share setting and copy the embed code.
- In Moodle, navigate to where the video should appear open the text editor and use the Edit HTML option to paste the embed code into the text editor.
This method does not rely on the Panopto LTI, so it can work immediately on moodle4.lsu.edu and will continue working. However, it is more technical and is recommended only when videos must be available before August 12th.
